Welcome to our Web site!My name is Yvonne and I live in Cape Town South Africa. I have four adult children seven grandsons and three granddaughters I first joined the WCFS some 18yrs ago but with the pressures of a young family and later a very ill husband I was a very back seat member and really did not "get off the ground" .I knew how beautiful Fuchsias are but I did not pay attention to just how rewarding they are to grow. About eight years ago I "retired", moved house and rejoined the society. This time around the bug has bitten and I am what the serious growers call a "Fuchsia Fanatic". The Society was
started 27 yrs ago by
They used to meet in various homes in the early days and were affiliated to the SA Fuchsia Society. Later as membership grew they broke away and became a society in their own right and have grown ever since under the chairmanship of competent people such as Bunty, Joy Kessler, Neville Nichols and Prof Jan Wiggelinkhuizen As home computers became more popular and members were enviously looking at Fuchsia sites overseas creating a society website of our own was talked about but never quite materialized then yours truly opened my big mouth offering to attempt to design a site and you are now seeing my very amateur first attempt.. I was introduced to computers by my children some 15 yrs ago because I wanted to expand my home industry and my knitting machine offered great promise in pattern design for which I needed to become computer literate. The interest grew and so here I am wading my way through learning the intricacies of designing a website.
Visit us often because hopefully I'm going to learn more and more and change the site as often as possible. ËËËËËË South Africa Click to see climatic regions The Western Cape is situated at the southern most tip of Africa and is one of the nine provinces of South Africa, the capital city being Cape Town (where our society is based) is known as the Mother City and is the seat of parliament for six months of the year. Cape Town is watched over by Table Mountain which is said to have a magnetic attraction for both those born and bred here as well as for visitors. Table Mountain seen from Jan Wiggelinkhuizen's home at sunset on a summer evening. We experience hot, dry summers - the heat being at its peak in February and of course we have to contend with the South Easter (known as the Cape doctor) which blows from September to November. Winters are usually wet and cold with snow on the high mountains. The other provinces of South Africa are The Eastern Cape, The Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape and Northwest Province. Climatic conditions in all the provinces are different and therefore growing of Fuchsias is different but as all Fuchsia fanatics all over the world know "where there is a will there is a way" If you live in another province please share your Fuchsia experience with us. For info on these provinces see http://www.southafrica.info/ess_info/sa_glance/geography/provinces.htm õõõõõõ |
