As we read all the beautiful books that are available we realize that most of them are written overseas for overseas conditions - I hope you will submit  questions that are specific to your area if they are not covered

in the following list.

bulletQ     Do Fuchsias cope with wind?
bullet
bulletA     Some of our members live in Fish Hoek which is renowned for the South Easter which many of you know can blow !! and yet they grow successful Fuchsias. The secret is to break the wind either with trees or if this is not feasible then with shade cloth or in really bad areas a shade house. Beware 'tho because if there is no circulation of air the White flies will soon find your plants.

bulletQ    Do Fuchsias grow in the garden or only in pots?
bullet
bulletA    There are hardy Fuchsias that will grow in the garden eg  Voodoo, F. Magellanica, Amy Lye, Gartenmeister Bonstedt, Mrs Marshall,  but as a general rule they seem to like their roots confined and it is easier in a pot to feed and maintain if you are wanting lots of flowers on one plant. Having said that I relegated Pink Jade to the garden last year because I thought it had passed its sell by date - to my astonishment it produced many flowers even after the season was supposed to be over. Moral of the story take lots of cuttings and experiment.
bulletQ  How often do Fuchsias need water?
bullet
bulletA  This depends on a number of factors eg the size of your pot, how hot the temperature is and how much wind has been blowing. There are a number of very good products on the market at present designed to retain moisture. Most of these form a jelly when wet and mixed with the soil they keep the soil moist for longer. A Fuchsia survives some dryness better than over watering and remember misting with a light spray works wanders when the weather has been very hot.. They definately do not like to be waterlogged so be very careful that your mix drains well.
