Western Cape Fuchsia Society of South Africa welcomes you

to the first and, as far as I am aware, the only Fuchsia society website in South Africa, we trust you will enjoy the site, visit often and that you will offer constructive criticism and useful tips and suggestions.

The Society's Mission statement is:
bulletTo encourage, improve and extend the cultivation of Fuchsias.
bulletTo regulate the nomencullture of Fuchsias and to assist in registering the names and descriptions of new varieties and species.
bulletTo collect and disseminate information likely to prove of interest to members.
bulletTo encourage the study and growing of Fuchsias.
bulletTo encourage participation in Shows and Exhibitions.
bulletTo encourage the formation of independent groups with the same objectives as above.

The Society meets monthly starting in February on first Saturday of every month. Workshops are held from March at which experienced growers lecture and demonstrate all aspects of Fuchsia growing. Tea is served after the workshop and a talk is given bi-monthly by well known speakers, some related to Fuchsias but often to other plants or places of interest. Our annual subscriptions are R120.00 for which you get a quarterly magazine called Fuchsia Focus and all the other benefits of our club. People living too far away from Cape Town to attend our meetings may join for R50.00 pa and will receive the Fuchsia Focus but will not be able to vote. If you are in Cape Town on a visit you would be welcome as a visitor.

Venue: St Thomas Church Hall, Campground Rd, Rondebosch

Time: 2:00 pm

An annual show is held towards the end of November every year at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Plants are available for sale at the show.

British Fuchsia Society: While browsing the net recently I came across an article about the history of the B.F.S. Many of our rules are in line with the B.F.S. so I found this article extremely interesting - it is quite long so I will not transpose it here but if you are interested in history have a look http://www.thegardeningwebsite.co.uk/fuchsia-society-british-i3910.html
